do you require a deposit or signed contract?

I do not currently require a signed contract or deposit for most sessions to hold your session date. However, the studio reserves the right to require a written contract or deposit at it's descresion. A non-refundable Holiday deposit may be required in advance for sessions booked on Holidays.

What forms of payment do you accept and When is it due?

Session payments are due at the session unless otherwise agreed upon. Session payments can be made with cash (exact change appreciated), check (made our to Thru Laurie's Lens), or Credit/Debit (onsite or via Paypal). Product payments are due at the time of purchase and can be made via credit/debit thru the online store. Due to the personal nature of photography all session fees and product sales are final. A $25 returned payment fee will be assessed for any returned checks or payments. In the event of multiple returned payments, Thru Laurie's Lens reserved the right to refuse that type of payment in the future.

How far in advance should I book my session?

I recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks prior to your desired date. This will allow time to personalize your session. However, sessions can be booked up to 24 hours before the desired session date if needed. Please keep in mind that busy times for me professionally are usually busy times for me personally, so my calendar fills up fast.
When scheduling your session please keep in mind that the studio will need time to carefully edit your images, produce custom requested products, and produce and deliver printed orders. You will also need time to thoughtfully select and order your images. Requests for rushing proofs and finished orders will result in additional fees IF the studio is able to accommodate your request.

What days are you available for sessions? Can We book on a holiday?

I do my best to find time in my family's schedule that works with your family's schedule for the best session experience. There are currently no regular times or days when I am NOT available to photograph. Outdoor, on-location sessions are best done early morning (dawn) or late afternoon (dusk). I would suggest avoiding the mid-day hours, if possible, as that is when lighting is harshest. However, I recommend choosing a time that works best for YOUR family's schedule, so everyone is at their best. Avoid nap times, meal times and cranky times. (If you, your children, or spouse are not morning people, I would not suggest an early morning session.)

Can we take photos at multiple locations?

Yes! I consider a 'location' a destination outside of comfortable walking distance from our original location. I like to choose locations that have several nice photography spots within walking distance to allow us to vary the look of your images. Please keep in mind that travel time from location to location counts toward your session time. Most sessions include just one location. Additional locations can be added for $25 each.

Can I request specific photos to be taken or groupings to be photographed?

Absolutely! If you have no specific breakdowns in mind, I typically will photograph a variety of poses (whole family, mom and dad, mom and kids, dad and kids, kids together, kids individually, etc.) Please keep in mind 'recreating' an existing photograph is never going to be an exact match. However, I am happy to help you create something in the spirit of your inspiration. If this is the case, please discuss with me prior to your session and/or bring the images with you for reference.

What do I need to bring to my session?

Please bring any props or outfit changes you would like to include. (It helps to discuss these with me before the session.) I recommend bringing a water bottle or two, especially when it starts getting hot. Small treats or candy to 'encourage' the kiddos if they get cranky can also be helpful. Also, please bring your preferred method of payment as your session fees are due in full at the time of service.

What should we do to prepare for our session?

Take a deep breath and relax! Know that I fully understand that getting everyone ready for photos and out the door is half the battle. Try to leave yourself plenty of time to get ready and get to our location so you're not feeling rushed. (Text me if you're running late!) Lay out you clothes and pack up your props the night before so all you have to do is grab them on your way out the door. I've had more than my share of stressful photo sessions with my family... I get it and am prepared to go with the flow to guide you through a stress free session!

What should we wear? Can we change clothes?

My best advice is to keep it simple, comfortable and as close to your everyday wear as possible. The more comfortable you are in what you are wearing, the more comfortable you will be in your images. I recommend you build off what's already in your closet and choose a color scheme to build off of instead of going matchy-matchy. This will be more visually interesting in your photos. Use accessories or props to add a pop of color or quickly change a look. Allow each individual's personality to shine through! Keep in mind the décor of where your portraits may hang/what you'll be using them for when you make your selections. Also keep in mind that certain items of clothing may limit our posing options.
You may absolutely change outfits during your session. Just let me know prior to arriving at your session so we can make the proper arrangements. Time taken to change clothing comes out of your photography time, so we want to make sure we have scheduled enough. I have a pop-up changing tent I can bring along if there are not facilities at our chosen location. I would recommend no more than one outfit change per session. Partial changes, like swapping shoes or a shirt/jacket/necklace, can be a quick way to change your look without taking the time for a full wardrobe change.

What happens if we need to reschedule?

I understand life happens. However, the time of all parties involved is valuable. If a member of your session is ill or circumstances come up that require you to reschedule, please afford me as much warning as possible. I am happy to work with you to reschedule your session so we can get you the best images possible. You are allowed one complementary reschedule. Further rescheduling of the same session will result in a non-refundable, non-transferable $25 rescheduling fee due at the time of booking the new date to reserve your session day and time.
In the unlikely event that I am ill, injured or circumstances arise that render me unable to photograph your session, I will do my best to afford you the same courtesy of as much advance notice as possible. We will work together to try to reschedule the session at your earliest convenience.
In all the years I've been doing on-location photography, I have only had to reschedule a handful of session due to inclimate weather. Sessions will be called due to weather by the studio based on my assessment of liability, possible damage to equipment, and the ability to deliver the best possible images to you. In the unlikely event this occurs, I will do my best to accommodate rescheduling your session at no additional charge.

What happens if a member of our session is less than cooperative?

As a mom of two boys, I've had my fair share of photo sessions that have aged me! I understand this situation can be frustrating. Kids will be kids... actually, we can get some great 'personality shots' when they 'bring it on' during a session! My advice is to relax, step back, and give me a chance to work my magic. The times included in the session descriptions are approximate for just this reason! We may need to switch gears and work on some more candid, playful images, sing, dance, or try taking a short break to regroup. Also there's no shame in 'encouraging' them with a trip for ice cream, to their favorite restaurant or sneaking them some candy. Let me in on it so we can run with it together. I usually have a few treats in my camera bag too, but I won't get them out without your permission. On an extremely rare occasion, we may need to work together to decide this just might not be their day for pictures, but not before all other options are exhausted. If this occurs, we can work to reschedule at no additional cost to you.

If we end up needing more time on the day of the session, can it be added on?

Yes, of course... as long as my schedule allows for it and your contracted session does not prohibit it (mini session days, for example). All times included in the session descriptions are approximate... Photography, by nature, results in a personal and organic session and sometimes they take slightly more time, sometimes a little less. Additional time is $25 per 30 minutes. We will never proceed to extra time without discussing it first.

I want candid shots, is that something you can shoot?

Yes. However, candid shots are not something that I can pose or stage as the photographer. I can only be ready to shoot them when they naturally occur. I can make suggestions for them, but candid images require your family to interact naturally with each other and not look directly in the camera for every image. Hug, kiss, laugh, joke, play around with each other and have fun! This is where the best candid shots come from.

How many photos do you take? Do I get to see all the photos?

I will take as many photos as we need and time allows. Obviously this varies somethat, based on the session you schedule and the photography needs you have.
No, you will not get to see all the photos. During the editing process I will eliminate unflattering, eyes-closed poses, as well as obvious duplicates, carefully selecting the best images for my enhancement process. This allows me to spend more time carefully touching up and enhancing your final images and enables you to make your final selections from the best of the best images from your session.

Is there an extra charge for retouching or creative editing requests?

All images will be taken and proofed in color. Images in your gallery have been thoughtfully selected and carefully enhanced by the photographer. This is included in your session investment. I will do my best to accommodate any special requests for editing and retouching, within my technical abilities and creative/artistic license. Please speak to me about your editing needs and I will be able to give you an idea of availability and customize a quote for such services if applicable.

Why is your logo on my proofs?

My logo/studio name is on your proofs for copyright protection. I do not currently include any logos on purchased digital negatives or prints.

Do I have to order prints through you?

No, you do not have to purchase prints through Thru Laurie's Lens Photography. However, to print your images at a lab of your choice you will need to purchase the Digital Negative(s) and copyright release to the image(s) that you would like to print.

I see you post images and sneak-peeks on social media, and use images in your advertising. What about mine?

While Thru Laurie's Lens retains the rights to all images taken, your privacy and wishes are important to me. At your session, I will provide you with a model release allowing you to grant permission or opt out of having images from your session used publicly on social media and studio advertising. I will never post full names with your images. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have on this topic.

What if I don't like my images?

Every effort will be taken by the studio to ensure this doesn't happen. If it does, please don't hesitate to contact me so that we can discus any issues and work together to resolve them to your satisfaction. Please note that due to the personal nature of photography all sales and session fees are non-refundable. Reshooting fees may apply.
